Movies and Casinos

When people step inside a casino they’re not only stepping into an alternate reality, they’re also entering an environment that is both stimulating and energizing. Whether you’re playing a game of chance or one that requires skill, there is something about casino games that draws in individuals and keeps them coming back for more. The sights, sounds and smells of a casino can make even the most jaded individual feel excited.

The music blaring, the coins clinking and the glitzy statues are all enough to stir up excitement for anyone. Then there’s the fact that casino games are just plain fun – it’s hard to resist them. Although there may be some tutting at times when things don’t go a patron’s way, most people are generally having a good time. Especially when there’s free spectacular entertainment, reduced-fare transportation and elegant living quarters available for big bettors (or “good” players as casinos are known to call them).

As far as movies go, Casino does an excellent job of depicting the casino experience. While many movies only skim the surface, Scorsese digs deep into the opulence and neon signs of Vegas to portray an underworld that is both predatory and treacherous. The film’s central character, Ace, is played with incredible attention to detail by Robert De Niro. His refusal to help the FBI investigate Nicky, despite losing everything he rightfully or wrongly held dear, is both awe-inspiring and devastating at the same time.
